Our History

We were established as Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Mission Parish of Red Deer in 1999. Over the first 17 years of existence the parish operated out of various funeral homes, community halls, and other rentable spaces. It is due to the dedication of the people in the parish, as well as some very generous donations from Calgary and Edmonton, that we are able to proudly say we built a Temple in 2016. This Temple dedicated to our Father among the Saints, Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra, was consecrated by His Grace Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton, on July 31, 2016. We are particularly grateful to St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Congregation in Calgary for their founding of the Southern Alberta Mission Project, which until September 2019 allowed us to share the services of Father Timothy Chrapko, who traveled from Calgary to serve the community. The Red Deer Parish is served by Fr. Dr. Timothy Chrapko, of St. Anthony of Kyiv Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Edmonton on the first Saturday of every month, and by V. Rev. Fr. Stephen Keaschuk (retired and attached to St. Anthony of Kyiv in Edmonton), on the third Sunday of every month. The parish is also served by other priests of the Western Eparchy of the UOCC when they are available.
